Our plan was to see the Mona Lisa and then everything else and we achieved most of that! I pre-booked tickets for 9am and we entered via the carousel via the metro rather than the pyramid. Then, straight to the Mona Lisa where there were only a handful of people so we got some great pics. We then ticked off each room as we went. Where we failed was down the the sheer scale of the place and we missed some of the sculptures as a result. One could spend hours in each room and still not take it all in. A very tiring day but well worth it.
The biggest world museum! Excellent experience! I highly recommend you to go there with a guide - it will really save your time. Guide will navigate you for most important masterpieces with interesting information in addition. And, of course, there is a fast entrance for groups. There are some small stops with coffee and some snacks inside the museum.
Get ticket for 9 AM Monday morning if possible, be in line by 8:45 at latest. Most people's complaints were that main attractions were too crowded; by doing this and skipping audio guides, we went straight for the Mona Lisa and there were only ~50 people when we got there.
